A Brooklyn man was arrested after driving his SUV onto the Long Island Rail Road tracks, causing damage, service delays, and multiple charges including driving while intoxicated.
The incident, occurring around 4:52 p.m. on Sunday, saw the SUV driving approximately half a mile on the tracks before becoming disabled, leading to severe damage to both the vehicle and train infrastructure.
Hidalgo's actions not only endangered himself and others by placing his vehicle on active train tracks but also caused significant disruptions to service, impacting multiple train lines in the area.
Following the incident, MTA Police charged Hidalgo with several offenses, including reckless endangerment, highlighting the serious legal consequences of such dangerous behavior.
