Shonda Rhimes, renowned producer of 'Bridgerton' and 'Grey's Anatomy', resigned from the Kennedy Center board after Donald Trump was elected chairman, citing concerns over the institution's artistic integrity. Alongside Rhimes, Issa Rae also withdrew from a planned performance at the venue, expressing similar sentiments regarding the erosion of values that foster diverse artistic expression. Trump's controversial comments about the center, including his characterization of its past programming, have intensified worries about a shift in its cultural mission, now under the governance of his appointees.
Please be advised that as of today, Shonda Rhimes has resigned from the board of the Kennedy Center.
Unfortunately, due to what I believe to be an infringement on the values of an institution that has faithfully celebrated artists of all backgrounds through all mediums, I've decided to cancel my appearance at this venue.
It is a Great Honor to be Chairman of The Kennedy Center, especially with this amazing Board of Trustees.
We're going to make sure that it's good and it's not going to be woke.
