Boy, 5, dies in hyperbaric chamber explosion at Michigan medical facility
Briefly

A tragic accident took place in Troy, Michigan, when a hyperbaric oxygen chamber exploded at the Oxford Center, leading to the death of a 5-year-old child and injuries to the child's mother. The explosion occurred around 8 a.m., with the child inside the chamber experiencing fatal injuries. Early investigations suggest the high concentration of oxygen in pressurized environments may have contributed to the combustibility of the chamber. The center, which has operated for over 15 years without incident, has expressed concern for the safety of its patients and will cooperate with investigations.
The safety and wellbeing of the children we serve is our highest priority. Nothing like this has happened in our more than 15 years of providing this type of therapy.
The presence of such a high amount of oxygen in a pressurized environment can make it extremely combustible.
We did some initial investigation. This is very uncommon, so we're not sure what led up to it.
The child, from Royal Oak, Michigan, had been inside the machine and was pronounced dead at the scene.
