Boxers need protection': new union to offer fighters PFA-like support
Briefly

The Global Fighters Association (GFA), co-founded by Paul Smith and Amir Khan, is set to establish a framework for financial support and aftercare for boxers, similar to what exists in other sports. Smith emphasized the lack of care and protections in boxing, highlighting issues such as the absence of pension funds and healthcare for fighters. The GFA also aims to work with stakeholders and authorities to improve fighter support, noting that boxing and MMA are the only sports without recognized union representation. The initiative comes at a critical time as boxing gains renewed attention.
There's not enough care, there's not enough protection for fighters, after boxing there's no pension funds in place, there's no insurance, there's no healthcare.
The timing of this is critical, it's never been needed more. We realized that if we built the right team then the timing for this couldn't be better.
