Boom's XB-1 jet breaks the sound barrier for the first time
Briefly

The startup Boom has made history by successfully breaking the sound barrier with its supersonic aircraft, the XB-1 'Baby Boom'. Piloted by Tristan Brandenburg, the plane reached a speed of Mach 1.1 at an altitude of 35,000 feet during its test flight over the Mojave Desert, marking a significant milestone for civilian aircraft, being the first to do so in the U.S. Following a series of subsonic tests, Boom is also working towards launching its passenger jet, Overture, designed to travel at Mach 1.7 and significantly reduce flight times.
