Bookshop.org Now Sells Ebooks
Briefly

Bookshop.org, after five years of connecting customers with local bookstores, has expanded into ebooks, enabling these independent shops to sell digital titles through its marketplace. Customers can support their favorite bookstores with ebook purchases directly, ensuring stores receive all profits. If a customer doesn’t select a bookstore, Bookshop allocates a portion of profits to a fund for independent bookstores. This initiative aligns with CEO Andy Hunter's vision to address the gap in ebook sales for local bookstores, aiming to reduce reliance on Amazon and bolster community-driven support for reading.
"It's crazy that bookstores can't sell ebooks to their customers right now," Hunter says.
Customers can also browse all of the ebooks for sale on the website, then choose which bookstore to support with their purchase.
Bookshop puts a chunk of the profits into a sharing pool that's distributed among independent stores.
