The blast appeared to have been a suicide bomb, said the senior superintendent of police operations, Muhammad Baloch. Investigations were under way for more information, he said.
Police officials stated that the target was army personnel from the Infantry School, highlighting the increasing violence against security forces in the region.
Dr. Wasim Baig confirmed that at least 44 injured individuals were treated at the civil hospital, with many in critical condition following the Quetta blast.
The troubling resurgence of violence in Balochistan is evident, as the province faced an alarming rise in attacks by both ethnic separatists and Islamist militants.
