The body was discovered off Inisheer, the smallest Aran Island, and is believed to belong to a 45-year-old woman missing from Cork.
Search teams were searching for Máire Ní Fhátharta from Spiddal, who went missing after swimming at Silverstrand, while over 500 volunteers assisted.
The tragic incidents of two swimmers disappearing were compounded by dense fog in the area, which may have affected visibility and safety.
Multiple agencies, including the Irish Coast Guard and local search crews, collaborated in the extensive 45km search along the Galway coastline.
