The town of Stadtallendorf's new fire station, completed at great expense last year, burned down due to the absence of a required fire alarm system.
Emergency services were alerted to a fire that started in a vehicle, rapidly engulfing the entire structure, provoking outrage due to it lacking a fire alarm.
District fire inspector Lars Schafer expressed his devastation, stating, 'It is a nightmare for a firefighter. No one wants to have to extinguish his own fire station.'
Norbert Fischer called for an urgent review of the laws surrounding fire station construction, highlighting that not having an alarm was legally permissible.
