A High Court judge ruled that billionaire couple Iya Patarkatsishvili and Yevhen Hunyak are entitled to a large refund after discovering a severe moth infestation in their £32.5 million London mansion, Horbury Villa. They accused the seller, William Woodward-Fisher, of hiding the issue, which dated back to early 2018. The judge ordered a refund, deducting £6 million for the period they lived there, alongside £4 million in damages for the couple's loss, including costs related to damage inflicted by the infestation and stamp duty paid.
The judge ruled that Patarkatsishvili and Hunyak should be refunded much of the house's cost, minus £6 million for the time they lived there, plus substantial damages.
Woodward-Fisher told the court he had been informed that moths were not vermin and 'therefore not relevant to this inquiry.'
Pest control companies found that insulation in the ceiling was the source of the issue, leading to costly repairs of £270,000.
The couple found moths in clothes, wine glasses, and toothbrushes, swatting away hundreds a day shortly after moving into the mansion.
