Public expressions of Jewish identity are increasingly met with suspicion and hostility, resulting in a growing sense of fear among American Jews who once felt safe.
In my hometown of Houston, peaceful expressions of Jewish identity have blended seamlessly into the city; however, the current climate leaves many feeling wary and vulnerable.
As a rabbi in Houston for 24 years, I now find myself removing my yarmulke in public out of wariness, despite not feeling immediate threats.
