Bay Area city to pay club $1.5M after debate over huge religious symbol
Briefly

The city of Albany will pay $1.53 million to the Albany Lions Club following the removal of a Christian cross from Albany Hill, ending a long dispute.
Albany removed the cross after years of legal battles over its religious symbolism in a public park, initiated by the Freedom From Religion Foundation in 2016.
Dorena Osborn, the Calls' granddaughter, expressed that the cross's removal felt like persecution, calling for tolerance towards Christians in a supposed tolerant nation.
Councilmember Aaron Tiedemann noted that reactions to the cross's removal were mostly positive, seeing it as a necessary step for inclusivity.
