Bathroom fitter finds Roman coins in field that could be worth 1,500
Briefly

In July 2023, David Dunn, a bathroom fitter from Leicestershire, made a remarkable discovery while metal detecting near his home in Sapcote. He unearthed a hoard of 50 Roman coins dating from the late third century. This significant find, consisting of Antoninianus coins, is expected to fetch between £1,200 and £1,500 at auction on February 18 at Noonans Mayfair. The coins are largely in excellent condition, with one identified as a new variety, making this an extraordinary event for Dunn and the coin-collecting community.
‘I then found a Roman coin and another with my pinpointer in the same hole. I was so excited... it then just snowballed from there over a 4m square area.’
‘This is a wonderful find of Antoninianus coins by David and we are very pleased to be selling them.’
‘Many of the coins that I found were in really good condition with perfect portraits - it was a once in a lifetime find!’
