Ban on Chinese connected-car software is almost ready
Briefly

The ban allows companies to apply for government authorization to import certain software or hardware that would typically be restricted, but conditions may apply.
There are exemptions for software and hardware related to vehicles older than model years 2027 and 2030, aimed at minimizing retroactive impacts.
The final rule only affects light-duty vehicles, while vehicles with a gross weight over 10,000 lbs will face separate regulations in the future.
Disruption to the US car market is limited for now, as the rule applies from 2027, and current Chinese-made vehicles may still be available.
