Bad Idea!' GOP Senator Condemns Trump's Jan. 6 Pardons for Those Convicted of Assaulting Police Officers
Briefly

Sen. Thom Tillis expressed strong opposition to President Trump's pardons for individuals convicted of assaulting police officers. While he acknowledged some pardons might be justified, he distinguishes assaults on law enforcement as unacceptable. In a subsequent discussion, Tillis raised concerns about the potential misuse of presidential pardons, noting that it could create a cycle of favoritism among presidents. He is preparing legislation to increase legal penalties for offenses involving police, aligning with his stance on the importance of law enforcement protection and accountability regarding pardons.
I think it's a legit question because we can't get into the cycle where presidents are, you know, pardoning their friends, granting prospective pardons for charges that haven't even been applied.
I just can't get there at all... I think it was a bad idea. Many of them probably was the right thing to do, but... those who assaulted police officers, I just can't get there.
What I'm trying to do is figure out there are some commutations to me I just can't agree. I'm about to file two bills that will increase the penalties up to and including the death penalty for the murder of a police officer.
