"If you catch the fetus at a funny angle, it can look kind of spooky," says Dr. P. Ellen Grant, director of the Fetal Neonatal Neuroimaging and Developmental Science Center at Boston Children's Hospital.
Medical experts have confirmed to TODAY.com that these 'nightmare demons' are in fact real babies in utero. The same ones everyone will 'oooo' and 'ahhh' over once they're born.
The 'otherworldy' look isn't specific to unborn children, however. 'I could show you an adult MRI and it would look just as scary,' says Suzanne D. Debari, a registered diagnostic medical sonographer.
The original poster of the meme (@ZiziFothSi on X) captioned four fetal MRIs, "The real reason they discourage MRIs in pregnancy is because then people would realize they're incubating nightmare demons."
