The 38th African Union Summit in Addis Ababa is expected to be dominated by discussions on the ongoing conflicts in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Tete Antonio, Angola's foreign minister, emphasized the need for stability to reach the AU's sustainability targets for 2063. The Sudan civil war has led to a major humanitarian crisis, displacing around 12 million people and affecting neighboring countries. Bankole Adeoye from the AU warned that the current conflict in Sudan has broader implications for the region, which includes significant refugee crises.
"We must stop the war in Sudan because it affects us all. Currently, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Egypt, Chad are all hosting thousands of refugees. A war in Sudan is also a war in the Horn of Africa."
"For us to achieve our [sustainability] targets of 2063, we need to sort out all our troubles and make Africa a better place free of conflicts."
