AT&T pays $2.3M to settle claims it fiddled subsidies
Briefly

AT&T has agreed to pay $2.3 million to settle allegations from the FCC regarding false claims made to obtain broadband subsidy funding intended for low-income customers.
The FCC alleged that between May 2021 and 2023, AT&T improperly enrolled subscribers using incorrect information and allowed unqualified sales reps to process these enrollments.
Among the violations, AT&T sought reimbursement for customers who had not used their service for over 45 days, despite ACP rules stating eligible subscribers must use the service regularly.
AT&T acknowledged parts of the FCC's allegations, admitting that the claims reflect a true description of the facts that were investigated.
