The information you are seeking is not collated centrally. However, national HR did reach out to our services and we are aware of seven employees who were dismissed by the HSE due to court sentences received by them, over the last 10 years.
The HSE has an elaborate disciplinary procedure in place that has been agreed with health service unions. It details examples of 'serious misconduct', including theft, deliberate damage to property, fraud or falsification of documents, gross negligence and serious breaches of confidentiality.
When an allegation of serious misconduct is made, an investigation is carried out by a team. The employee against whom the allegation is made will be given a copy of the investigation report.
The purpose of the disciplinary hearing is to allow the employee to respond to the allegations before deciding whether or not to take disciplinary action. The employee must be made aware that the outcome of the hearing may result in a disciplinary sanction.
