ISWAP launched a significant attack on a Nigerian army base in Malam-Fatori, Borno, resulting in the deaths of at least 20 soldiers, including a commanding officer. The assault lasted over three hours, during which the soldiers were caught off guard. Despite efforts to repel the attackers, ISWAP's firepower proved overwhelming, leading to numerous injuries and fatalities among the troops. Following the attack, the fighters reportedly burned buildings and preached to locals, contributing to the ongoing violence in the region, which has seen a resurgence of attacks by ISWAP and Boko Haram.
