Day Trip, a newly established LGBTQ+ bar in Asheville, NC, faced destruction by Hurricane Helene after being in business for only 31 days. Despite the setbacks and accumulating over $200,000 in debts, owners Brandon Davis and Davie decided to reopen in a new, larger location funded by an outpouring of community support through a GoFundMe campaign. With plans to expand their offerings to include a full cafe and larger events, they aim to create a space that is "bigger, gayer, and louder." Davis expresses gratitude for the community support, especially from youth donors, and a desire to give back to the community.
"Once we hit our GoFundMe goal, we knew that we had to get back up and running as soon as possible," Davis tells The Advocate.
"We're going to be bigger, we're going to be gayer, we're going to be louder," promises Davis about the new Day Trip.
"I want to represent not only the Asheville community, but just the queer community, because if they didn't step up for me, we would have lost our house," says Davis.
Davis expresses appreciation for the donations from the community, saying it made them feel "more of a part of the community."
