Artist marks 80th anniversary of Auschwitz liberation by donating works to Unesco
Briefly

Shelomo Selinger, a 96-year-old Polish artist and Holocaust survivor, donated two significant works to Unesco to honor the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp. His pieces, 'Desire for Freedom' and 'Shoah,' will enhance Unesco's art collection, aimed at preserving the memory of the Holocaust. The artworks will first be displayed at the Musée de la Shoah in Drancy. Selinger's personal history includes surviving nine concentration camps and later studying art in France, culminating in a notable contribution to Holocaust remembrance through his art.
These two artworks will contribute to Unesco's efforts to ensure the memory of the Holocaust reaches as many people as possible, and will initially be on loan to the Musée de la Shoah in Drancy for an exhibition.
Selinger was deported in 1942, moving through nine concentration camps. His mother and one of his sisters were taken to Auschwitz in 1943, and in 1945 he was discovered by a Russian doctor.
