Storm Éowyn has led to significant disruptions in Ireland's communications infrastructure, affecting over 168,000 homes without electricity and 50,000 broadband customers. As the recovery efforts continue, more than 600,000 customers have had their power restored. Although many areas are recovering, the devastation has been labeled the worst in recent memory, with ongoing reports of damage to poles and fibre lines contributing to communication outages, particularly in rural regions. Companies like Eir and NBI are working diligently to address these issues, though timelines for comprehensive repairs remain uncertain.
"Extensive damage has been sustained to all infrastructure networks across the country," said a spokesperson for NBI, emphasizing the severity of the disruptions.
Approximately 11,500 premises remain without water this lunchtime supplying 31,000 people, down from a peak of over 200,000 following Storm Éowyn, Uisce Éireann said.
Eir, the largest broadband firm, says that 50,000 network customers are still without a connection, indicating the ongoing struggles in communication recovery.
Despite service being restored to over 700 mobile sites, around 10pc of its mobile sites are currently impacted by power outages and damages.
