Appeals court blocks FCC's efforts to bring back net neutrality rules

The FCC exceeded its statutory authority, with a ruling deemed too sweeping in an order that mandates net neutrality rules, known as the Safeguarding and Securing the Open Internet Order.

FCC chair Jessica Rosenworcel emphasized that without clear rules, essential new applications could be throttled, risking the emergence of the next major service like Amazon or YouTube.

Rosenworcel stated that "Consumers across the country have told us again and again that they want an Internet that is fast, open, and fair," urging Congress to establish net neutrality principles in federal law.

With Rosenworcel's impending departure and Brendan Carr likely to replace her, there are concerns that net neutrality regulations will be further rolled back given Carr's past efforts to overturn such regulations.
