Ancient house at Herculaneum, known for its beautiful floor mosaics, reopens to the public
Briefly

The Casa della Gemma, a spectacular ancient dwelling, has reopened temporarily as part of a strategy to increase visitor numbers while ensuring the preservation of Herculaneum's heritage.
'We are pleased to announce [we are] gradually reopening the various domus, starting with the Casa della Gemma,' said Francesco Sirano, the archaeological park's director.
The cyclical opening of this and other buildings makes it possible to reduce the wear and tear caused by constant tourist pressure, thus distributing visitor flows throughout the site.
Herculaneum, like Pompeii, was smothered by ash from Mount Vesuvius in AD79, preserving its structures and offering archaeologists insights into ancient Roman life.
