Amazon's Kuiper secures UK license to take on Starlink
Briefly

Ofcom has approved Amazon Kuiper Services Europe's application for a satellite connectivity license in the UK. This license allows Kuiper to use the Ka-band frequencies for operating user terminals, facilitating access to satellite internet once the constellation is fully operational. Amazon plans to deploy an extensive fleet of 3,232 satellites by 2025, aiming to compete with SpaceX's established Starlink service. Ofcom determined that Kuiper's operation would pose no significant risks to existing satellite systems, addressing concerns from competitors about potential interference.
So far, Amazon Kuiper Services Europe has launched two test satellites for the constellation. The initial design calls for 3,232 satellites, with production satellites scheduled to launch in 2025.
Ofcom noted that larger NGSO systems such as Kuiper's do not necessarily increase the risk of interference; it could instead mean a greater choice of satellites to connect to.
