Amazon is winding down its Kindle Vella platform by February 2025, citing disappointing engagement since its launch in 2021, ultimately deciding to discontinue the service.
Vella was initially presented as an innovative outlet for readers to discover serialized stories and for authors to monetize their works, but adoption has been lackluster.
Authors are allowed to publish stories on Vella only until December 4, with tokens purchasable until then, but will be usable until the service's closure.
Amazon's attempts to boost Kindle Vella's appeal, such as opening access to the first ten episodes of stories at no cost, have fallen short of expected engagement.
