Amazon-backed SMR maker raises $700M, sans working reactor

X-energy has announced an additional $700 million fundraising effort to advance its small modular reactor (SMR) technology, despite its current reactor design still unproven. The new funds, backed by multiple investors including Jane Street and Ares Management, will help X-energy proceed with its plans to develop and deploy four Xe-100 reactors capable of generating electricity by 2039.
