"to win the Davis Cup one day ... because for me, it's a really important, important tournament."
Carlos Alcaraz will miss the Davis Cup Finals in Bologna because of an edema in his right hamstring, with medical advice not to compete. The injury occurred during the ATP Finals and was diagnosed as muscle overload and swelling. Alcaraz was due to lead Spain against the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals; the Czech team includes top-20 players Jiri Lehecka and Jakub Mensik. Alcaraz debuted in the Davis Cup in 2022 and holds a 6-2 overall record (5-1 in singles). He missed the 2023 event for fitness reasons. Alcaraz secured the year-end No. 1 ranking and won the French and US Opens this year, bringing his Grand Slam total to six.
