Prominent Italian business leaders, including those in fashion and sports, have been targeted by a sophisticated AI-based scam. Fraudsters cloned the voice of Defense Minister Guido Crosetto and initiated phone calls claiming to seek help for freeing kidnapped Italian journalists. At least one victim fell for the scam, transferring €1 million to a Hong Kong account under the false impression of reimbursement. Several legal complaints have been filed so far, prompting Crosetto to publicly address the issue, hoping to prevent further victims as more individuals report similar experiences.
