After a year of facing building-code violations, Brownstone Shared Housing achieved city approval for its sleeping-pod dormitory, emphasizing minimal needed changes and safety concerns.
James Stallworth from Brownstone argued, "There really wasn't anything that we had to change about the building... I would have accepted that. I'm a human and know we have to provide a safe place to live but there were no safety concerns."
Stallworth clarified, "There was never anything illegal about the pods. It’s just that we didn’t have a change of use because this building used to be a bank."
The original issues included installing twin-bed sleeping pods without a permit and converting a toilet into a shower, raising questions on safety and legality.
