David Webb, visibly shaken, detailed his experience at the Worcester City Council meeting after being assaulted by the owner of Piccolo's with spray paint, stating, "Sorry I'm shaken up, the owner of Piccolo's just spray-painted my face out there." He described the incident as he addressed various agenda items wearing a shirt advocating for decriminalization related to the homelessness issue in Worcester.
Webb later reflected on social media regarding the attack, mentioning, "Disliking me is understandable but advocating for violence against activists and advocates is fascism." He expressed that the incident exemplified the dangerous atmosphere faced by activists.
Worcester City Manager Eric Batista announced there was a reported fight just before the council meeting began, stating officers responded promptly when they learned of the attack that left Webb shaken and needing medical assistance.
Despite being assaulted, Webb maintained that he was fine overall yet agreed to seek medical evaluation at UMass Memorial Medical Center, further emphasizing the seriousness of activism amidst rising violence.
