The Falmouth Fire Department reported a challenging rescue due to high surf and wind conditions, making it difficult to locate the capsized sailors.
Shortly after the rescue efforts began, the two teens managed to reach the shoals south of their overturned sailboat and were assisted by first responders.
Despite all three people being in life vests, the rescue was complicated by surf conditions, prompting the use of a Coast Guard boat and a drone.
Five individuals, including the two teenagers and rescue personnel, were subsequently transported to the hospital; the teens were treated for hypothermia.
