442 people injured amid steep increase in recorded dog attacks last year

In 2023, reported dog attack injuries surged 44% to 442 incidents, with Dublin City topping the list at 63 cases. Only Wicklow and Roscommon had no injuries.
Following the tragic death of Nicole Morey, regulations were tightened prohibiting import and transfer of XL bully dogs. Restrictions require owners to obtain a certification after February 2025.
