Senator Ted Cruz is advocating for significant reforms to the $42.45 billion Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program. His telecom policy director, Arielle Roth, has been nominated to lead the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), overseeing the grant distribution. Cruz has criticized the current NTIA leadership for allegedly imposing unnecessary requirements that hinder broadband access. Roth echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that the NTIA's focus has shifted from connecting underserved Americans to a political agenda, which she believes could increase costs and complicate fund allocation.
Instead of prioritizing connecting all Americans who are currently unserved to broadband, the NTIA has been preoccupied with attaching all kinds of extralegal requirements on BEAD and, to be honest, a woke social agenda.
Cruz previously accused the NTIA of 'technology bias' because the agency prioritized fiber over other types of technology.
