A fire in Passaic, N.J. severely damaged a three-story building housing two storefronts, displacing several residents. Firefighters responded promptly, rescuing individuals trapped inside. As the fire escalated to four alarms, a defensive strategy was employed to control the flames. Mutual aid was provided by neighboring fire departments. Several firefighters sustained minor injuries during the incident, with two requiring hospitalization. The blaze was controlled by 3:15 a.m. Meanwhile, the Red Cross offered assistance to displaced residents, providing temporary lodging, food, and clothing.
Firefighters responded at around 1:30 a.m. Saturday and immediately started rescuing residents from the building at Main Avenue and Madison Street.
The fire grew to four alarms and firefighters were forced out of the building as they battled the blaze.
Several firefighters were treated for minor injuries, and two were taken to the hospital in fair condition.
The Red Cross said 46 people in 10 families are receiving assistance including temporary lodging, food, and clothing.
