1.6m spend on ULEZ-compliant buses agreed
Briefly

The council’s decision to replace its aging bus fleet with new ULEZ-compliant vehicles aims to reduce long-term operating costs and avoid future penalties.
Transport chief Simon Blake emphasized the urgency of replacing the old buses, which are several years past their average lifespan, to prevent escalating maintenance costs.
Given the increase in demand for travel services due to the borough's growing youth population, it’s critical to modernize the transportation fleet now.
The new buses will be exempt from ULEZ charges until 2027, allowing the council to manage costs effectively while meeting future travel demands.
