Police in Mount Prospect announced the charging of 11 teenagers, aged 16-17, with felonies for their alleged involvement in two violent assaults against gay men.
The incidents occurred on July 8, leading to a 41-year-old and a 23-year-old victim being attacked, with damage inflicted on their vehicles.
Among the charges, one teen is facing hate crime counts for using racial and derogatory language during the assaults, highlighting the motive behind the attacks.
Video surveillance footage from a convenience store helped authorities identify some of the 11 involved, who turned themselves in to police in November.
