Following the death of Commissioner Manolo Reyes, two candidates, Jose Regalado and Ralph 'Rafael' Rosado, are vying for the District 4 seat in a special election set for June 3. Regalado, the son of former Miami Mayor Tomás Regalado, resigned from his position as assistant building director to run. Rosado, with extensive academic credentials and previous election experience, aims to represent the district he has called home for 20 years. Both candidates have just over a month to campaign ahead of early voting.
Regalado, who had been working as an assistant building director in the city of Miami, officially resigned from that role on Monday.
Rosado, who lost to Reyes in 2017, has a bachelor's degree from Florida International University, a master's in public policy and urban planning from Princeton University and a Ph. D. in city planning from the University of Pennsylvania.
