Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the Long Island Aquarium in Riverhead is home to a diverse range of marine life, including sand tiger sharks and various exotic fish. Co-founder Joe Yaiullo emphasizes the aquarium's commitment to maintaining high-quality care for its animals, some of which have been part of the exhibit since its inception. Visitors can experience cage diving with sharks, adding adventure to their visit, while the aquarium has expanded to include reptiles and other creatures over the years, making it a multifaceted marine attraction.
"The sharks are 26, and I've got some fish in the reef tank that I've had for 26 years, among many others," co-founder Joe Yaiullo told The Post.
For nearly 20 years, the aquarium has offered guests the death-defying opportunity to take a cage dive into its 120,000-gallon tank.
They proudly display Grey Beauty, a blind seal rescued from an East Ham.
Just keep swimming outside the shark tank; there's plenty to see at the marine center, which has broadened its footprint since opening 25 years ago.
