Heat may have already missed out on premier free agent center
Mitchell Robinson is expected to re-sign with the New York Knicks this summer, which would take a key backup center target off the market for the Miami Heat. Miami had planned to pursue a capable backup center, either to support Kel’el Ware or to take on a larger role in a revamped lineup. Robinson’s recent performance included six points and nine rebounds per game with 72% field shooting, along with 60 regular-season games played. He also appeared in 13 of New York’s 14 playoff games during the run to the NBA Finals. With Robinson likely unavailable, Miami may consider Nikola Vucevic, Jusuf Nurkic, Robert Williams III, Brook Lopez, or Deandre Ayton. Miami’s top priority remains pursuing Giannis Antetokounmpo, with expectations of a decision by the 2026 NBA Draft.
"Aside from Robinson, there are a few more intriguing options that the Heat could entertain, such as Nikola Vucevic, Jusuf Nurkic, Robert Williams III, Brook Lopez, or even Deandre Ayton. However, considering the role he's practically perfected on the Knicks, there's no question that Robinson would've been somewhat of an ideal fit for Miami."
