Miami Heat guard Dru Smith is undergoing recovery after a season-ending torn Achilles tendon suffered on December 23, 2024. Reflecting on his injury, he expressed feelings of loss but emphasized the importance of processing these emotions. Recently, he began traveling with the team, allowing him to continue rehabilitation and support his teammates. While the Heat value his presence, the team would prefer to have him active on the court, as he had become a crucial element of their rotation before the injury.
It was very, very unfortunate. It was tough for those first couple days, first week or so just trying to process it all. I felt like I was in a really good spot, things were going well.
Just a little bit easier to get some work in with [Heat Senior Director of Rehabilitation] Jeff Ruiz. It's always good to get out and be with the guys, and just be here to support.
We love having him around. This was really for him to come on the road trip and get out of the building, lift his spirits up.
The reality, though, is the Heat would rather have Smith on the court.
