Tornadoes across central United States kill at least eight people

"At least eight people have been killed as tornadoes lash the states of Michigan and Oklahoma in the central United States, with authorities warning that more storms are expected. Authorities on Saturday said that four people were killed in southern Michigan and four in Oklahoma, though the death toll could still rise as rescue workers assess the damage."

About 81 kilometres (50 miles) southwest of Union Lake, Cass County officials also reported one death and numerous injuries after a tornado touched down there as well."

Tornadoes struck Michigan and Oklahoma on Friday, resulting in at least eight deaths and numerous injuries. In Michigan, three people died and twelve were injured in the Union Lake area near Union City, with an additional death reported in Cass County approximately 50 miles away. In Oklahoma, at least two people were killed in Beggs in Okmulgee County, and two more deaths occurred in Major County. The storms caused extensive damage including destroyed buildings, vehicles, and downed power lines. The National Weather Service forecasts continued severe weather with thunderstorms and flash flooding expected from the Great Lakes to Texas, with potential for additional tornadoes. Emergency management personnel are conducting damage assessments in affected areas.
