Florida International University picks Jeanette Nunez as sole candidate for president
Briefly

Florida International University has named Jeanette Nunez as the sole candidate for its president, following her appointment as interim president in February. This decision aligns with expectations, given her political background and connections. The university's presidential search was deemed procedural, with discussions around amending search requirements as the outcome appeared predetermined by connections to Governor DeSantis' office. Board members noted the potential waste of taxpayer dollars on a formal search process, as Nunez was already favored for the position.
"I did not suggest the lieutenant governor as interim president not thinking she should be the full-time president," said Rogelio Tovar, chair of the Board of Trustees, in February.
Trustee member Dean C. Colson expressed, "Why spend a couple hundred thousand dollars having a search if the outcome is determined, given the engagement of the governor's office."
