Florida A&M University athletic director Angela Suggs was arrested on charges of grand theft and scheme to defraud, totaling over $24,000 for personal use of a corporate credit card at her former job as CEO of the Florida Sports Foundation. The investigation stemmed from an audit that revealed unauthorized personal purchases, including gambling expenses, misrepresented as business meals. Suggs was subsequently booked and released on bond, while FAMU is monitoring the situation, stating it is unrelated to her current role.
Suggs was charged with two felonies: grand theft and scheme to defraud, along with four misdemeanor counts of false claims on travel vouchers.
The investigation began last November after the FDLE received a criminal referral from the Florida Department of Commerce's Inspector General regarding Suggs' credit card purchases.
