44 percent: Florida Memorial upgrades, Circle of Brotherhood, Miami judge
Briefly

The Circle of Brotherhood gathered in Miami on August 7, 2025, to address budget gaps caused by federal defunding. Executive Director Lyle Muhammad emphasized the crucial role of grassroots organizations in combating crime in Black communities. With their federal grant revoked, concerns are rising over potential staff layoffs and the impact on summer violence prevention. Community leaders expressed the organization’s significant contributions, and Olivia Eason highlighted the personal motivation for service and support as vital for uplifting their community.
As Olivia Eason, a Miami native who works for the Circle of Brotherhood put it: "This is about giving back at least what I got."
Lyle Muhammad expressed, "The most detrimental thing about being gone right now is we're just a few weeks before summer... It looks like we may have to be forced to ramp down while crime and violence is ramping up."
