Dolphins release long snapper who was ill during 2024 season
Briefly

The Miami Dolphins have released long snapper Blake Ferguson after a five-year tenure, largely due to his unavailability in 2024 caused by a non-football illness. Ferguson missed 12 games and never returned last season, the nature of his illness remaining undisclosed. The team struggled during his absence, employing four different long snappers to fill the gap. The decision coincided with a change in special teams coordinators, signaling a shift in the team’s strategy moving forward. Alongside Ferguson, three other players were waived as part of the roster changes.
"Just not my best work," Ferguson said in the visitors' locker room in Foxborough after the game. "As hard as you try to be perfect, unfortunately that's not always going to be the case. Just a bad snap."
Ferguson was largely unavailable for the team in 2024, placed on the non-football illness list last October after the team's first five games.
The Dolphins pieced together the 12 games Ferguson missed in 2024 with four different free agent long snappers, three games apiece: Matt Overton, Tucker Addington, Zach Triner and Jake McQuaide.
He never returned last season, missing 12 games in total. What had Ferguson ill was never revealed by the team.
