Miami Dolphins rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers has shown promise in training camp, but coach Mike McDaniel reaffirmed Zach Wilson as the backup to starter Tua Tagovailoa. While McDaniel acknowledged Ewers' potential, he emphasized the importance of having a proven backup. Dolphins quarterbacks coach Darrell Bevell praised Wilson's talent and skillset, noting his high draft status and capability to make special throws. Despite challenges faced during his time with the Jets, Bevell sees an opportunity to elevate Wilson's performance within their offensive scheme.
We see the talent. You're a high, top-five draft pick for a reason. He definitely has the skillset. He definitely has the arm strength, the arm talent.
Where some see that the guy's done, we see the opposite, where we really want to take tools that he had.
We thought - some of the same vein as Tua - people think Tua couldn't play, and you see how he's playing now. We wanted to be able to do that with Zach.
Zach's played a lot of football.
