Zoo Miami has celebrated the birth of three North American River Otter pups, born to Zinnia, a 7-year-old otter. This litter is Zinnia's third. The pups, one male and two females, will remain out of public view for a period to bond with their mother. The zoo indicates that Zinnia and her partner Edison, a 9-year-old otter, have unique backstories, with Edison having been hand-raised following his rescue. North American river otters, known for their playful nature, are native to freshwater habitats across North America.
Zinnia, a 7-year-old river otter at Zoo Miami, gave birth to three pups, marking her third litter and drawing attention to this playful species.
Zoo Miami's North American river otters can thrive in the wild for about a decade, but under human care, they may live up to 20 years.
