Evelyn Valdes, a 28-year-old social worker, was killed by stray gunfire during a police-involved shooting on June 14. Her family held a press conference, expressing the impact of her loss on the community as hundreds attended her funeral. Family members emphasized the need for justice and answers about the circumstances of her death, lamenting the lack of information from authorities. They are calling on witnesses to come forward to help uncover what happened that night.
"My sister was very important, not just to my family, but many, many families, too," her brother, Jose Valdes, told reporters at a family plea and press conference. "We're all going to stand together until we get the answers that we're looking for and the justice she deserves. My sister would've fought tooth and nail for anybody else."
"We deserve to have more answers ... I just need them to reach out and tell me something. Tell me what happened," Valdes mother, Kristy Garcia, said during the plea for information.
